Al Ain University offers Bachelor of Science in Nutrition and Dietetics Program

Al Ain University offers the Bachelor of Science in Nutrition and Dietetics as a new program in the College of Pharmacy in its both campuses, Al Ain and Abu Dhabi, which contributes to the graduation of a generation of dietitians to promote health, disease management and prevention.

Prof. Ghaleb El Refae, AAU President, pointed out that launching this program came after several studies and researches on the labor market needs and the local community. He added, with the increasing of the community interest in health and fitness, and in light of the demand for studying this major, Al Ain University saw that offering this major is adequate in order to meet the local community requirements. Where, the program aims to enhance knowledge of the importance of proper nutrition in humans and to provide service to the local community and adequate information for them.

About the job opportunities for graduates of the Bachelor of Science in Nutrition and Dietetics, Prof. El Refae said that job opportunities will be available in hospitals and centers specialized in nutrition.

Dr. Khairi Mustafa, Dean of the College of Pharmacy, said that registration in the program will start from the new academic year 2019-2020. He added, students who would like to study in Nutrition and Dietetics program are required to obtain a UAE secondary school certificate or its equivalent approved by the Ministry of Education in the UAE with a minimum average of 60%, in addition to, a valid English Language Proficiency score of at least 1100 in Emsat, 500 in TOFEL, or 5 band in IELTS. Also, students must successfully complete 131 credit hours, with a cumulative GPA of at least 2 out of 4.

The Bachelor of Science in Nutrition and Dietetics program is the second program offered by the College of Pharmacy at the Bachelor's level, along with the Bachelor of Science in Pharmacy. The College also offers a Master of Science program in clinical pharmacy at the master's level.

It is worth noting that the College of Pharmacy at Al Ain University holds an international accreditation for the Bachelor of Science in Pharmacy program from the Accrediting Council for Education in Pharmacy (ACPE).
