Engineering Movie Time, Inspires AAU Civil Engineering Students
The Civil Engineering Program, through its ASCE and ACI Student Chapters, under the supervision of Eng. Esraa Hijah hosted an engaging educational session titled “Concrete & Popcorn: Engineering Movie Time.” The event was designed to connect academic concepts with real-world engineering practice through an immersive documentary experience.
The featured documentary focused on Capital Gate Tower (ADNEC), one of Abu Dhabi’s most remarkable architectural and engineering achievements. Students explored the innovative structural design behind the world-famous “Leaning Tower of Abu Dhabi,” including its advanced diagrid system, foundation engineering, material considerations, and the construction challenges faced throughout its development.
This initiative reflects the continuous efforts of the ASCE and ACI Student Chapters at AAU to enhance civil engineering education by exposing students to real, iconic projects within the UAE. By showcasing Capital Gate as a case study, the event aimed to inspire future engineers and deepen their understanding of how theoretical knowledge transforms into groundbreaking structural solutions.
The session concluded with strong student interest and engagement, reinforcing AAU’s commitment to providing meaningful, industry-oriented learning experiences for its civil engineering community
