AAU discusses the ways to detect the drug toxicity

The College of Pharmacy at Al Ain University at Al Ain Campus discussed the Atomistic Computational Models to Predict Drug-mediated Cardiotoxicity, by organizing a lecture presented by Dr. Khaled Barakat from University of Alberta, Canada, under the supervision of Dr. Mohammad Ghattas from the College of Pharmacy at AAU, in the presence of Dr. Noor El Deen Atatreh, AAU Chancellor, Dr. Khairi Mustafa, Dean of the College of Pharmacy, academic staff and students.

The lecturer talked about developing a computational tool to predict drug-specific toxicity on the heart muscles. Which would assist scientists in their consideration for potential drug molecules early on the drug discovery process and hence would help research groups and pharmaceutical companies in saving time, efforts and money, especially if such compounds were predicted as cardio-toxic agents by the newly developed tool.

Dr. Atatreh stressed the importance of the topic discussed and the extent of its positive impact in the field of drug discovery and industry. He also stressed the keenness of Al Ain University to keep pace with the continuous development of the field of university education in pharmaceutical sciences, and the tremendous progress in the pharmacy profession and drug discovery and development.

For his part, Dr. Ghattas said that the lecture aims to keep the academic staff and students at the college of Pharmacy updated about the latest research in the field of pharmacy and the discovery of pharmaceutical industries.

It is worth to mention that, Al Ain University represented by the College of Pharmacy is keen to organize scientific lectures and held various conferences that contribute to the development of the skills of faculty members and students in all fields of pharmaceutical.
